Urgent (Same Day) & Emergency Appointments

If you have a problem that cannot wait for a routine appointment, please refer to our Urgent Problems and Out of Hours page for information.

General Information

An appointment is required to see the doctor or nurse. We offer 10 minute appointments for our doctors and nurses.

If you are more than 10 minutes late for your appointment you will have to re-book.

The practice offers a number of appointments which you can book up to four weeks in advance.

We will always endeavour to let you book an appointment with the doctor of your choice at a time that suits you best. This is obviously not always possible especially at times of high demand (usually around the holiday periods) and when doctors are on holiday.

Cannock Practices Network Surgery

Dr Murugan & Partner is one of a number of local GP Practices participating in the Cannock Practices Network Surgery based in the GP Suite on Level 2 of Cannock Hospital. This Surgery is open during the week and on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

It is staffed by doctors, nurses and Reception staff who also work in one of those Practices.

Monday to Friday

When all of our weekday appointments are fully booked, the Network appointments can be offered by our Reception staff after 1:30pm each day to our patients.

Saturday and Sunday

In addition, pre-bookable appointments are also available in the Cannock Practices Network Surgery at Cannock Hospital. If, for example, work commitments make it difficult for you to come to Dr Murugan & Partner during the week, you can call us any time on Mondays to Fridays to pre-book your appointment or telephone 111 (Out of Hours Call Centre) on Saturdays and Sunday mornings.

Appointments with the Practice Nurses

Our Practice Nurses are available by appointment for injections, diagnostic tests, smears, new patient checks, routine blood tests and blood pressure checks. We also run clinics specifically for diabetes, asthma, well baby, ante-natal, Coronary Heart Disease, hypertension and advice on stopping smoking.

Telephone Advice & Consultations

Telephone Advice

Telephone Advice may include queries about a prescription, a test result, a hospital appointment, a referral, a form that needs to be completed or advice about a minor ailment. Please call and ask the receptionist who will be able to help you.

Telephone Consultations with your Doctor

If you only need advice from the doctor or nurse you can book a telephone consultation by calling the Surgery. The doctor will call you back and discuss your problem at an allotted time. Please make sure you give the correct phone number to the receptionist.

Telephone appointments are only available during surgery hours.

Advice is also available from the NHS 111 service by calling 111 from your landline or mobile phone.

Chaperones

If you anticipate that you may require an examination by the Doctor and feel that you would like a chaperone to be present, please make reception aware at the time of booking your appointment so that this can be arranged. Alternatively bring along a member of your family or friend to your appointment.

Cancelling an Appointment

If you are unable to attend for your appointment please tell us in good time so that we are able to offer another patient the use of that appointment.

You can use one of the following methods:

  1. By Telephone:
Please call us on 01543 870570.
  2. By Fax: Please send us a fax on 01543 870575.
  3. In Person: Call into your surgery and let the receptionist know in person.

We can offer your appointment to someone else and therefore help to reduce waiting times.

As part of our commitment to all our patients we monitor the efficient use of appointments. If a patient regularly fails to attend a booked appointment, the practice reserves the right to remove them and their family from the practice list.
